Perché leggere "Come trattare gli altri e farseli amici"

This has been probably the first personal growth book I've read.

Some people say that this book isn't good because it's banal or whatsoever.

So why am I recommending it?

Because I think that if you have no clue about relating to others this book could teach you a lot.

These are the main points IMH:

Part 1

  • people are generally irrational, emotional, proud, full of prejudices

  • listen without judging

  • sincere and honest appreciation is the secret to create relations (and to success)

    • it's like a superpower

    • because people want to feel important

  • generate enthusiasm in your team, don't criticize

    • conveys constructive criticism correctly

    • encourage people to work and improve

    • don't hold back on praise

  • nurture the self-esteem of others

  • appreciate, don't flatter (and fear people who flatter you)

  • hurting people doesn't make them change

  • free waffle (creating business opportunities by chance).

  • people are interested in what count FOR THEM. To get something from them, you have to give THEM something they want.

    • Speak about their interests, not yours

    • understand other people's POV

  • negotiation has to be convenient for both sides

  • ask yourself, "How can I make him/her want it?"

Part 2

  • be genuinely interested in others

  • if you want to make friends, greets people cheerfully and enthusiastically, even on the phone

  • smile. while you walk on the streets. while you meet people. everytime you can. smile to other people. smile to yourself.

  • remember other people's names

  • simply listen to others. They'll see you as a good person and trust you, even if you've done nothing but listen to them.
